Jeremy Clarkson reacts to trying to watch old episodes of Top Gear via online streaming.
You wake up one morning and decide that you want to watch to Top Gear- specifically the episodes in season 9 where Clarkson, Hammond, and May to go to Florida (pre-cash for clunkers) and buy $1000 cardsso you go to Netflix because they have Top Gear!
But you want to watch an episode from season 9. Netflix, which you pay $144/yr for, only has seasons 18-22. Ah! But you pay for Amazon Prime, maybe that will have it.
Well, shit. They don’t have it for PRIME streaming. So if you want it, it’s going to cost you $2. But you already pay $99/yr for Prime and having to drop a couple Washington’s on some nostalgia seems a little much.
I know! I’ll watch Fifth Gear instead! I think that’s on Hulu or something.
But they only have Seasons 16-20 of that show.
Yes, I know that the contracts for each season are basically done individually and that there are regional restrictions and all kind of backroom bullshit that happens. But here’s the thing - content creators need to get this straight: having your content in bits and pieces sprayed across the internet is bad for your brand. It associates you with frustration and limits access to your back-catalog - all over a few pennies per episode.
Oh, and little reminder -
This thing still exists - as do many others. And they have better access to your back-catalog than any of the other services in existence.
Here’s a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . ~5000 total shows.
And there at 7500 results for “Top Gear” on TPB. This is your competition. Get your head on straight.

Or maybe Xfinity, but you have to pay extra for 720p video quality.

We recently got a cease and desist letter from TBS, because someone at our IP allegedly downloaded an episode of American Dad that came out 2 years ago from TPB, but isn’t on Netflix yet.

I really do wonder what they're doing sometimes, they have to know that having missing seasons and bs like that is annoying enough for people to just download instead.

You’re right. There are people who will only buy from legitimate sources out of moral code, or because it’s “too techy” to do torrents. But, there is a huge market of people who are happy to dl for free with today’s fast internet connections. The key to selling your product is to make the product and buying experience better and easier than the free alternative. If content creators would make that a priority, they wouldn’t have to worry so much about piracy.
Stop treating your customers like they’re your enemy.

Everyone saw Netflix’s money-makin’s and wanted their own slice, so they try to start their own streaming service that has their and only their programming, while cutting Netflix and others out of the deals they had.
The result is you have to sign up for five or six different shitty services if you want a comprehensive streaming catalog.

I just kick ass torrent. I get a season of whatever and maybe keep it if it’s a good copy.

It sort of makes sense. It’d be great if they had everything under the sun, but realistically the last 13 seasons of TG are what the vast majority of people want. Going for the less popular older seasons as well has little value - it would cost them just as much to licence and host them, but they’d make less money from them.
I agree that it’s shitty. If there was one service with everything I’d be there. But they try to cater for the latest and most popular stuff, not everything.

Everything in this article is completely correct. Pay for Netflix, Pay for Amazon, Share Hulu with a friend(I pay for netflix, he pays for hulu)
Amazon tries to make it like their service has so much to stream, but alot of it’s hidden behind a “rental” fee. Then it’s like why TF do I pay for all this crap when I just hit up a torrent site and get it free.
That or with TV, if you forget to DVR a show you like to watch. It’s not out on “On Demand” until the next episode airs. So many company’s want our money for streaming, but fail to provide content in some way.
This is why I’ve given up on cable. I saw that meme about I pay for cable but still have to see ads. Was in the middle of an internet/cable outage due to the power company, and said fuck it. I called cable and told them either lower my bill, or come get your crap by tomorrow or it’s going in the trash. That was Saturday at like 6pm. The cable company had some dude out there at like 8am the next day taking out their equipment.
Now between Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, using my mom’s cable log in to watch TV from my computer and “alternative” methods I get my fix. (Time Warner gives you a log in to watch TV on the go, I use hers to watch some Discovery/History/Science channels, since she doesn’t)
Now I just pay like 50 bucks a month for the fastest residential internet that’s offered in my area, and it solves my needs. Although, I’m a single guy, who’s got a $4500 computer. So it’s easier for me to cut the cord.
